Cisco SPA 500 Series Desktop IP Phones

The Cisco SPA 500 Series Desktop IP Phones are an excellent entry-level IP phone. They are full featured and very inexpensive. Featuring 802.11af standard Power over Ethernet support, deploying the SPA 500 phones is quick and easy. A backlit screen, speaker phone, multi-function line keys, and intercom are some of the other features. All models may also be connected to up to two additional Cisco SPA 500S attendant consoles to give up to an additional 64 speed dial or busy lamp field buttons. Phones come in one, four, eight, and twelve line key models.

Handset - This is the handset. Voicemail Indicator Light - Lights up red when you have a voicemail. LCD Screen - Shows information about calls, messages, softkeys, time, date, and other relevant information. Line Soft Keys - Multifunction keys that can be programmed to act as call apperances, busy lamp field, or speed dial. Soft Keys - Context-sensitive keys that perform different functions based on what is displayed on the screen. Navigation Buttons - Use these to navigate the various menus and features of your phone. Messages Button - Press to access the voicemail system.

Hold Button - Places the current call on hold. Settings Button - Press to access the settings menu. Mute Button - Press to mute the microphone. Volume Control - Control the volume levels of speaker phone, handset, or headset. Headset Button - Press to activate the headset. Speaker Phone Button - Press to activate the speaker phone. Dial Pad - Same as traditional telephone.

Using the Cisco SPA 500 Series Desktop IP Phone

Placing a Call

• Take the handset off hook or press a Line Softkey, the Speakerphone Button, or the Headset Button to get a dial tone.
• Dial the number you wish to call.
• Press the Dial softkey or wait for timeout.

Transferring a Call

• While in a call, determine if you wish to make a blind transfer or an attended transfer.
• To initiate a blind transfer, press the Right navigation key and then the bxfer softkey.
• To initiate an attended transfer, press the xfer softkey.
• Dial the number to which you wish to transfer the call and press the Dial softkey.
• If your transfer was a blind transfer, the transfer will be completed. Otherwise, announce the call and press the Lxfer softkey to complete the transfer.

Perform Three-Way Calling

• While in a call, press the conf softkey.
• Dial the number you wish to add to the call and press the Dial softkey.
• Announce the call.
• Press the lconf key again to join the third caller into the first call.

Dial Voicemail for this Extension

• Press the Messages button.
• Enter the password for your voicemail box using your dial pad.

Directory Features

Look Up Missed, Placed, or Received Calls

• Press the Settings button.
• Use the Navigation Keys to select Call History. Press the Select softkey to enter the Call History menu.
• Use the Navigation Keys to select the call list you want to view and press the Select softkey.
• Use the Navigation Keys to scroll through the list and select the appropriate entry.
• Use the Dial softkey to call that entry.

Add a Contact to Your Personal Directory

• Press the dir softkey.
• Use the Navigation Keys to select New Entry and press the Add softkey.
• Use the Dial Pad and the Navigation Keys to fill in the Name, Number, and Ring fields.
• Press the Save softkey to save the contact.

Delete a Contact from Your Personal Directory

• Press the dir softkey.
• Use the Navigation Keys to select the contact you wish to delete.
• Press the Delete softkey.
• Press the OK softkey to confirm that you wish to delete that contact.

Call a Contact from Your Personal Directory

• Press the dir softkey.
• Use the Navigation Keys to select the contact you wish to call.
• Press the dial softkey.
